Abstract

Global e-commerce adoption has accelerated rapidly in recent years, reshaping how businesses and consumers interact across borders. While developed economies have traditionally led digital adoption, developing economies are emerging as dynamic markets with high growth potential. This research article examines the multi-faceted drivers, barriers, impacts, and strategic implications of e-commerce adoption in developing economies. Through an integrative review of cross-disciplinary literature and conceptual analysis, this paper presents a comprehensive understanding of technological, socio-economic, infrastructural, and regulatory factors shaping e-commerce adoption. The study highlights challenges such as digital infrastructure gaps, trust and security concerns, and logistical limitations, while also recognizing opportunities driven by mobile penetration, digital payments, and youth consumption patterns. The findings offer theoretical insights and practical guidance for policymakers, enterprises, and global stakeholders aiming to leverage the transformative potential of e-commerce in developing markets.
